The MarLAB laboratory was created on 1st January, 1999 with the formation of the Department for the Study of the Territory and its Resources (Dip.Te.Ris.) of the University of Genoa that in 2011 was incorporated into the Department of Earth Sciences, Environmental and Life (DISTAV) from the fusion with the Department of Biology (DIBIO) and the Institute of Botany of Genoa. The laboratory incorporates the expertise of the preceding departments in the fields of basic and applied marine geology, oceanography, marine organism taxonomy, marine biochemistry and marine sedimentology. |

The Portofino Marine Protected Area has been instituted with the 26 April 1999 Environment Ministry decree and it comprises the municipalities of Camogli, Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure. Marine Protected Areas (MPA) aim to protect the sea environment and its resources and to promote and enhance the local economic enterprises, as long as they’re compatible with the natural and environmental highlights of the area. The management consortium is composed by: Genoa Province, Camogli Municipality, Portofino Municipality, S. Margherita Ligure Municipality and Genoa University. |
